Table of Contents
Hello, this is Koga from Tokyo Papercrafts! Today, I’d like to introduce the stamp-style seals featuring penguins from around the world, which were commissioned by Nakyku Post.
About Nankyoku Post
Nankyoku Post values craftsmanship and specializes in creating artwork featuring animals from the Antarctic and Arctic regions, using techniques such as silk-screen printing and woodblock printing.
They create miscellaneous goods and stationery items that prioritize the act of “giving,” and also sell their products through events and online shops.
In addition to the stamp-style adhesive seals introduced this time, they also create wonderful products utilizing various printing and processing techniques such as embossed seals, foil-stamped seals, letter sets, hand-printed tote bags, and more. Introduction of Works
This time, we received a request from Nanjouku Post for unique and adorable stamp-style adhesive seals where two pieces form one design.
First, here’s the design!
And here’s the second one!
Actually, when you align these two seals, the backgrounds connect seamlessly.
Upon closer inspection, you’ll notice that the center depicts the Antarctic continent, with Australia to the right and South America to the left, forming a map. The arrangement of penguins roughly represents their distribution across the globe.
As the impression goes, “penguins inhabit cold regions,” and indeed, most species of penguins live in the southern hemisphere, including the Antarctic.
The only penguin species known to inhabit the Northern Hemisphere is the Galápagos penguin, which lives on Isabela Island (part of the Galápagos Islands) straddling the equator. All other penguin species reside in the seas centered around the Antarctic Circumpolar Current, which flows around the Antarctic continent.
For example, the “01 King Penguin” and the “13 Emperor Penguin” appear similar in both name and appearance. These two species share features such as large bills, large flippers, and bright orange patches on their heads and bills.
However, upon closer inspection, there are notable differences. For instance, the pattern on the side of the head of the Emperor Penguin extends down to the chest, whereas in the King Penguin, it remains closed. Additionally, there is a distinction in the color of the feathers on their backs, with the Emperor Penguin being black and the King Penguin being gray.
These differences are accurately depicted in the artwork as well.
The Emperor Penguin has a charming appearance with its white and gray coloring, but the King Penguin is entirely brown… resembling a kiwi fruit. Until the 19th century, the King Penguin was known as the largest penguin species. However, a larger penguin species was discovered later, surpassing the “King,” and was thus named the “Emperor” penguin, giving rise to the name “Emperor Penguin.”
There’s plenty more information I’d like to share about penguins, but I’ll stop here as the conversation could become lengthy. Knowing about penguins adds a new layer of appreciation when looking at this artwork.
Order specifications
This time, we received an order for the ‘A6 size 9-sheet type’ stamp-style adhesive seals. After receiving the design data, we handled everything from on-demand printing to processing.
The “A6 size 9-sheet type” includes nine stamp-style adhesive seals that measure 29×44mm each when detached from the A6-sized sheet. This lovely piece is packed with an abundance of penguin love on a small sheet, resulting in a delightful product.
What are stamp-style adhesive seals?
Stamp-style adhesive seals” are our original product born from the requests of customers who wanted something that resembles postage stamps with perforated edges.
We worked diligently within our company to experiment and refine various aspects such as hole diameter and pitch to make the product as close to the real thing as possible.
【4-panel type / 8-panel type / 9-panel type】
We provide templates for both A5 and A6 sizes respectively. If you are interested in creating stamp-style adhesive seals, please feel free to contact us via the inquiry form.
【Blank type】
If you are considering creating in extremely small batches, we also offer blank types. These are inkjet printable sticker sheets (sold in sets of 10), allowing you to purchase just 10 sheets and print your desired design using your home printer! Purchase here.
Please note that printing that may be mistaken for real stamps and using them is prohibited, and permission from the postal authorities is required, so please be aware of this. For more details, please check the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications website. Enjoy them strictly as ‘stamp-style’ seals.
